Vintage 1937 Roamer Vest Elephant Skin black

The origins of our "Elephant Skin" go back to the 19th century and the industrial revolution. New working methods and machines demanded everything from the workers as well as from their work clothes and the fabrics used for them. Especially in heavy industry, fabrics like our "Elephant Skin" were increasingly used because the material was extremely resilient and could even withstand welding sparks.
The name says it all: a fabric that is just as resilient and at the same time as supple as elephant skin!
Gradually, the fabric develops like leather, although it is made of 100% cotton.
Today, as in the past, our "Elephant Skin" is woven by a German weaving mill in the old tradition and achieves a weight per unit area of 520 grams. The secret of the robustness of our "Elephant Skin" lies in the high weft density and the twisted yarn used as warp thread.
